In science we are currently studying seeds and plants. As a former reading teacher, I love to incorporate literature whenever I get the opportunity. We read the story "The Tiny Seed" by Eric Carle this week to investigate how seeds travel from place to place. The tiny seed in this story takes a long journey until one day it finds the perfect spot to call "HOME". Once the seed is planted it turns into the biggest plant of all. The text also has a hidden message...never give up! This story is a Read Aloud that children will enjoy over and over again. While reading the story discuss the following questions: What are things that can help and hurt the tiny seed? What are the different ways that seeds can travel? What does disperse mean? What are the parts of a seed? What are the 4 main parts of a plant? I encourage everyone to experiment at home. Plant a small garden outdoors and plant a few different types of seeds indoors to watch them germinate and sprout into new plants.
